Oak Martin has recently been appointed Director of Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville, NC, where he also serves as Artistic Director of the East Carolina Musical Arts Foundation. Previous positions include Associate Organist-Choirmaster at Peachtree Road UMC in Atlanta; Associate Organist at Saint Luke’s Parish in Darien, CT; Organ Scholar at St. Thomas, Whitemarsh; St. Mark’s, Philadelphia; and St. Bartholomew’s, Atlanta. He is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy where he studied organ with Thomas Bara and voice with John Bragle. Undergraduate studies were undertaken at the Curtis Institute of Music where he was a student of Alan Morrison and Michael Smith, and he received his M.Mus. from Yale University where he studied with Martin Jean, Jeffery Brillhart, and Richard Webster. While at Yale, he was the student director of music for Berkeley Divinity School at Yale where he oversaw music for three sung services a week, directed and accompanied the choir, and guided seminarians in liturgical music planning. Outside of organ performance, his graduate studies focused on liturgical practice, and the role of children in liturgy and music. In his free time, he enjoys walks by the Chattahoochee River and at the botanical garden.
